Interviews

Bogomil Peychev

Bogomil Peychev is among the designers of the spring-summer 2017 edition of Sofia Fashion Week. I had the privilege to be a guest at the event and witness his creations myself. Truth is, I have never seen similar clothes before. I have known him for a while and his style has always stood out which is visible in his collection. He is going to show his collection on Balkan Fashion Week this Friday, as well. Read more about his desire to change men’s wardrobe and let him convince you that fashion is not only for women.

Bogomil, this is your first fashion show. Have you dreamt about it a lot?
Yes! Since I was very young I’ve been interested in fashion. My sister’s prom 4 years ago, however, was the turning point of my life. I sewed my costume I was wearing myself.

Do you have a favorite look from the collection?
Yes – the last look from the show, which I was wearing.

If this collection is a reflection of who you are, what should we see in the clothes?
I am someone who loves being dynamic. I’m emotional and off-beat. There is constantly something on my mind. I love going out and attending events.

Which moment from the show you remember to be the most intense?
The secons before the models started walking on the runway. I wanted everything to be perfect.

What was on your mind the morning after?
The week before the show was the most difficult for me. There were so many things left, but time was limited. So I said to myself that I’ll have a rest for at least a month before I start working for the next one. But I decided that I don’t want to relax. I wanted the complete opposite – to work more. The runway refilled my batteries and I couldn’t wait for the next fashion show.

You have used colors like black, red, white, blue. Why exactly them and what do they ‘say’?
Black is the color I love the most and which most of my clothes are in. If it’s not black, it is some of the others. I come up with the combinations in my head and are sewn like that afterward. Everything is a matter of ideas.

Would you tell us what a workday of yours is like?
The days before the show I woke up at 8:30, left the house at 9, and went straight to the seamstresses. If necessary, I went to buy some fabric, buttons, or anything else they needed. After that, we decide on the way the models will walk on the runway and other similar details.

In your collection, you have a lot of leather. Would you say it’s like your signature?
Maybe. I like it because it gives clothes another feel that changes them.

Why did you choose Balkan Fashion Week to present your collection?
Because is it a major event which is going to be attended by a lot of people. Right now it’s very crucial for my clothes to be seen live.

The concept of this fashion week is to connect fashion with the cinema. Do you see your clothes worn by actors on the big screen?
Yes. There are costumes from the collection which will look good both on a stage and in movies.

What to expect from you from your new fashion show? Something different or a sequel of what you showed during Sofia Fashion Week?
There is a new costume. But I think that my clothes are attractive enough and it will be quite interesting to be seen in a different environment. As a background, we will have the Saint Paul Cathedral. It’ll be appealing.

Why did you decide to work in the fashion industry?
Fashion makes me feel refreshed and satisfied. I want to make new clothes. I like combining fabrics and I can’t imagine being doing anything else.

Do you have a favorite designer?
No. I am mainly interested in what they are doing. I aim to be different and innovative.

During Sofia Fashion Week you definitely were standing out from the other designers. Do you feel that on the streets, too?
Oh, yes. This is one of the reasons I have been questioning myself whether I’m going to make it here in Bulgaria. These clothes do not meet everybody’s taste and maybe

people need time to realize fashion is not only for women.

What does the man wearing your clothes look like? What type of person is he?
I imagine a mature and prosperous man. These sorts of people wouldn’t normally wear clothes like mine and I really want to see them dressed up with my items. That is when I’m going to feel like I’ve achieved my goal.

Do you think that your style will be approved by the more conservative consumer?
I honestly don’t know. People should understand that these clothes are not weird. They are classics with modern elements.

You say you want to transform men’s wardrobe. What does fashion look like right now and what changes does it need?
Fashion is not only a white tee and jeans. Individual style is what’s important.

Who do you owe the most after you’ve achieved so much?
The fashion course I attend, my parents and the university.

Which is the most precious lesson you’ve learned?
To never give up and to keep trying.

Would you describe yourself in three words?
An adventurer, dreamer, and careerist.

In which direction do you think will fashion lead you?
I hope my brand starts improving so that I can move forward. I want to get a master’s degree abroad and make my brand famous there as well.
